The Memorial Field Lab is an outdoor space on the school campus used to explore science concepts in the field. Students will expand their knowledge of what they have learned in class to explore those ideas out in nature. Students use a number of different tools such as quadrants, microscope platforms, lens cubes, and field guides.

Currently the Field Lab has two parts: A bird sanctuary and an outdoor classroom space. The bird sanctuary has bird feeders and bird houses that attract the area birds to our Field Lab for observation and study. The outdoor classroom space is a wooden deck that allows for groups of students to gather and share evidence or observations gathered.
Our field lab uses QR codes to help identify organisms that can be found in the area. Here is an example of a QR code:

To use this code, you will need to have a QR Reader app on your smartphone or tablet. They are free apps. If you have a QR reader, then simply open the app, place the code above in the box on your reader and it will send you to the place that has information about the organism.

Check out what we have observed through iNaturalist.org. Memorial's field lab is looking for you to help us collect data about what we have living around us. This data will then be used in classrooms to bring real world situations to our lessons. Sign up, download the app, and start helping us make observations!
